PDF and image tools for students

Updated October 12, 2026

Turning in assignments online comes with a lot of small file chores: the course site wants a PDF, the scan is three separate files, the photo of your worksheet is too big to upload. These free tools handle them in your browser, on a school Chromebook, a library computer or your own laptop.

Turn in a PDF when the course site asks for one

Wrote your essay in Word or Google Docs but the assignment wants a PDF?

  • From Word: convert the .docx with Word to PDF.
  • From Google Docs: use File → Download → PDF document in Google Docs itself.

Always open the PDF before you submit it and check the last page, the tables and any images.

Combine scanned or photographed pages

Scanning apps often save one PDF per page or per session. Most course sites want a single file.

  1. Put the PDFs together in the right order with Merge PDF.
  2. Fix sideways pages and drop blank ones with Organize PDF.

If your teacher accepts photos instead, iPhone photos may need converting first: HEIC to JPG makes them open everywhere.

Fit under upload limits

Upload forms often limit file size. To get under the limit:

  • Photos: shrink them with Compress image. Setting the longest side to around 2,000 pixels keeps text readable while cutting the size a lot.
  • Large PDFs: split them into parts with Split PDF, if your teacher accepts several files.

Privacy on shared computers

Your assignments, transcripts and ID scans aren't uploaded: every tool processes files inside the browser tab. On a shared computer, remember to delete your files from the Downloads folder when you're done.

Free for everyday use

You don't need an account. The free plan covers 20 tasks a day, files up to 50 MB, and merging up to 10 files at once, which is plenty for most coursework. See pricing for bigger jobs.
